What does Medicine have to do with it?

As a retired Family Nurse Practitioner my opinions have shifted in the recent years after having healthy babies that found themselves struggling with no answers or treatments that cured them. I really began to study the Holistic model as opposed to the traditional medical model I learned and trained under. No one here is dogging traditional, western medicine but that very thing has changed so much in the past 10 years; quite frankly perhaps longer than that. I am not anti-medicine, not anti-physician, but I will say in this case the system failed us.

Heres where my story begins, I write this foremost as a mom, but my background is as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In the Spring of 2018, our very healthy boys began to struggle one with gut issues and the other with the inability to breathe. I can remember as if it was yesterday, Our Noah, beautiful, bright and reserved, now 8 years old was battling intense constipation at 14 months. After repeated trips to his trusted pediatrician with more medication options, we opted to seek and intervention with a Specialist in Lubbock , Texas. Diagnosis: "no anatomical abnormalities, no obstructions noted"- "he will outgrow it". Well, he didn't. We struggled, I tried every possible way from diet augmentation and natural supplements and concoctions (pricey ones I will add) to alleviate this chronic constipation. When he finally was able to eliminate he would get these awful diaper rashes that would leave him in terrible pain and require more topical medicine to aid the pain. Soon Todd and I were spending hundreds of dollars on diaper rash cream, special concoctions and compound ointments to no avail. I then got my hands on a tube of Young Livings®Seedlings Diaper Rash ointment for a whopping $23! Within a day, his rash was improved by 50%! By the second day of application his rash was almost undetectable! We did this cycle for a year and a half (felt like a lifetime for him and us ). I refused to believe that he was bound to this future of Chronic Constipation.

Our Hunter, healthy, ro-bust, joyful, active boy was 5 months old when we walked out of the pediatricians office. I was in tears and dis-belief that he was given a diagnosis of "Respiratory Airway Disease" and then told this would lead to Asthma. We went home that day with a nebulizer, 2 steroids (one oral and the other aerosol) and 2 round the clock nebulizer inhalation treatments..only offering him minimal improvement. I can still remember him struggling to breath..terrifying for a mother hearing his wheeze and and his bark-like coughs; regardless of my training. Many doctor visits later, he was deemed that this would be his future and that "hopefully he would outgrow by 2 years of age". Every Spring and Fall we knew when the attack would hit, we began to prepare and have all supplies and medications on hand. We had almost given up thinking that his would be his "normal", although we refused to accept that. About this time, we also started learning more about the Power of the Words we speak over ourselves and our children, family, etc. As we began to learn more about this, we would often repeat aloud and in prayer-time that Hunter and Noah were healed and made whole in the Name of Jesus. Proverbs 18:21states that "life and death are in the power of the tongue" and that "reckless words pierce like a sword". Proverbs 12:18. That day forward, Todd and I used words of healing and wellness.

I began to research what connections the gut has with lung function and I was amazed to learn that there was a direct correlation. Shortly after that, I ran into a friend I had not seen in a long while and she shared with me her sons' health journey and his road to healing. She encouraged me to give Juice Plus® a try and sent me home with gummies for both boys to try for a few days. She further shared that a compromised gut can lead to a compromised lung function. She truly believed that Juice Plus® would help with Hunters' quality of life.

These accounts were many years ago and now we find ourself 5 years later.
